Evelyn Arlene Carwile Stargell, 91, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Guggenheimer Nursing Home.

She was born n August 4, 1916, to the late Charles Robert and Janie Lee Carwile. She was the beloved wife of the late Kirkwood Lewis Stargell.

She retired from the Navy Department, Supply System Command, after 30 years of service in Washington, D.C. She has been a long time member of the Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, an active member of the Beta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the National Association of Retired Government Employees.

She is survived by two step-daughters, Susan S. and Michael F. Boyne and Sherry S. and Thomas E. Osborne; two stepgrandsons, Brian and Laura Osborne and Patrick and Stacey Boyne; two step granddaughters, Amy Osborne and Colleen Boyne; and three great-granddaughters, Riley and Abigale Boyne, and Emma Osborne.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Barnett. Bill, and Robert Jackson, David Carwile, Jane Hopper, Gaye Harris, Jean Harris; and several great- nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special nephew and his wife, Danny and Carolyn Cheatham; two brothers-in-law, Hollis and Elizabeth Stargell, and Jimmy and Janice Stargell.

She was preceded in death by a step grandson, Kirkwood Francis Boyne;, and brothers and sisters, Raymond Carwile, Mitchell Carwile, Olive Jackson, Mary Ericksen, Nanny Foster, Pearl Mason, Pattie Cheatham and Georgia Faries.

Her family will receive friends for a viewing at the Diuguid Wiggington Chapel, 811 Wiggington Road from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may consider a donation to the Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia; or a charity of their choice.

I enjoyed taking care of Evelyn when I worked at gugg. She really loved talking about her family, she loved you all so much. I will miss her.
