Evelyn Shoemaker Obituary
Evelyn Helen Shoemaker, 83, of Albemarle County, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Born May 9, 1926, in LaPorte, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Haydak Gembala. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Howard Shoemaker.
Evelyn graduated from Indiana University in 1948, and taught English at several Indiana secondary schools. Together with her husband and children, she relocated from Bloomington, Indiana to Charlottesville in 1962.
She is survived by her sister, Bernice Hill of Indianapolis; and by her children, Pamela Ross of Newport News and Gregory Shoemaker of Albemarle County.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to support patient care at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Burial was at Monticello Memory Gardens on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
