Marie Calderaro

Gloria Eileen Marie Calderaro, 65 of Venice, Florida, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, from breast cancer at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Born in Montreal, Canada, on February 18, 1944, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Rita Williams of Ontario, the late Frank Williams, and the loving sister of Carol Williams of Montreal, Canada.

In addition to her mother and sister, she is survived by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Calderaro; two sons, Jason Lyman and his wife, Kristen Atkins of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Justin Lyman and his wife, Jennifer, of Bloomfield, New York. She has two stepchildren, Diane and Jimmy Calderaro of Venice, Florida. She was the proud nanny of five grandchildren Will, Jacob, Cole, Renee and Mia.

She will be remembered for her love of cooking, dancing, bargain shopping, and being with family, but mostly for living her life boldly and courageously.

A celebration of her life will be held in Venice, Florida, at the Epiphany Cathedral with a date to be determined in December.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the University of Virginia Cancer Center to benefit patient and family support services, UVA Cancer Center, P.O. I was just thinking of Gloria last night. I hadn’t seen her since our days in Burlington, Vermont, just before her move to Florida for a new life. So (for some reason), I googled her name, and to my shock, found out that she passed in November. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. All she used to talk about was her move to Florida when I knew her. My condolences to her husband Joe and the family. I know she will be missed. She was such a wonderful person.

I had the pleasure of working with Gloria and enjoyed having lunch with her about 6 months ago. We talked a great deal about our past and the wonerful times we shared. So sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Gloria was the sister that I never had. She never complained about her illness, not for one minute and will always be my HERO.
