Hazel Evangeline Mawyer

Hazel Evangeline Mawyer, 80, of Charlottesville, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Dover Gene Mawyer.

Born on August 19, 1929, in Red Hill, Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Leighton M. and Evelyn Phillips Mawyer.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Dale Mawyer and his wife, Karen, and Alan Stuart Mawyer; three sisters, Loraine Mawyer, Kay Mawyer and Cecile Rucker; and one brother, Clyde Mawyer; four grandchildren, Alexander Mawyer and his wife, Kirsten, Edward Mawyer and his wife, Kara, Daniel Mawyer, and Lara Mawyer and her fiance, Justin Ravenscroft; and two great-grandchildren, Pohakea Mawyer and Sydney Levine.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Mawyer.

Hazel died after a long and determined struggle with illness. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had an enormous influence on her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives. Her sunny personality, great humor and abiding faith will be long remembered.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 p.m. Tuesday June 1, 2010, at the Teague Chapel with Reverend Jeffrey T. Riddle officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2010, at Teague Funeral Home.
