Huey Brock Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29, 2010.

Huey S. Brock Jr.

Huey "Skeet" S. Brock Jr., 54, of Ruckersville, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

He was born on September 29, 1956, the son of Evelyn Shiflett of Browns Cove and the late William D. Shiflett.

In addition to his step-father, he was preceded in death by his brother, William S. Brock; and his nephew, Charles E. Spence.

Huey is survived by his daughter, Jennifer M. Brock and his former wife, Connie D. Brock, both of Free Union, Virginia; a sister, Sue Leftwitch and her husband, Harry, of Raeford, North Carolina; and two nephews, James B. Spence of Jackson, Missouri and Adam B. Leftwitch of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Before his illness, "Skeet", was previously employed for many years at Meadowbrook Hardware.

Huey was a faithful Christian and will be remembered by his family and friends for his smile and uplifting words. He was always willing to share his personal testimony in hopes of leading others to God.

He was a devoted father and a loyal friend to many. He was known for many selfless acts of kindness, always saying "you never let your left hand know that your right hand is doing" and giving all the credit to God. He always put God first and foremost and others before himself.

He will be greatly missed by those whose lives were touched by his presence.

A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. October 30, 2010, by Pastor Jack Richards at Calvary Chapel of Charlottesville, 1195 Fifth Street Southwest (behind Sleep In Hotel).

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Chapel of Greene, 8296 Seminole Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.

I was visiting my dad Lee one summer as a little girl and Uncle Skeet sat me in his lap told me the story about the bear in the blackberries while Connie put ribbons in my pigtails. I was so scared in a new place with new people and he made me feel safe and comfortable. I couldn“t wait to see him every summer and his inventions, the piano tv center was the best!! My heart misses ya Uncle.

Jennifer, I love you girl. You need to call me. I talked to you just a few weeks prior, and "dad". I had no idea how rough things were. I told him I loved him, I told him I missed him, now I miss him even more. I'm sharing your pain. Please call me, I did not even find out until tonight. I love you girl. 321-696-0313. I'm here for you.

Skeet was a huge blessing to me and my daughter. We were neighbors and my daughter Leanne and I helped him in the ways we could for a few years. I was told that we were his blessings, but I believe he was ours. He made us laugh, advised us, kept us faithful and kept us hopeful. He was an amazing man and as I read this guestbook I realize how huge the loss is to so many. My condolences to everyone one.
Skeet, we are hugging you from afar, and baking an apple pie in your memory at Thanksgiving.
I wish you would be here to enjoy it.

You are my blessing.

Skeet was one of the 1st friends I had in Charlottesville .
The thing I remember most about Skeet was that when he was well he was always willing & anxious to share with others .
He lived his faith & did his best to be a good person at all times .
He was a good man .
As a friend of ours said today. He was a great big TEDDY BEAR .
I miss the thought that he is not here any more .
I still think about cutting cedar tree from the land in Free union for Christmas trees when our son was young
& studying the word at Christ community .
Our sympathy goes out to you in this time of sorrow .

If I could write from heaven this is what i'd say, please don't miss me too much, I'm with you throughout your day. YOu may not see or hear me, but if youre uiet and still you may just feel my presence because in heaven there is free will. Don't worry for the day, it will come and go as planned, Enjoy each moment you are given, keep worry from your hand. Keep sorrow to a minimum; for if heaven you see, you'd know i'm safe and happy I did not cease to be. Memories in time are brief, until we'll be together again, as eternity last forever, our lives they have no end.

"peace i leave with you; may peace i give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. DO not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

When we were younger Skeet use to come and play with my brothers and we always enjoyed having him. Jennifer, what can I say? Your Dad was one of a kind. I always looked forward to playing music and singing with him in church. We went to several concerts together that I will never forget. Once a lady asked him if the seat next to him was saved. He replied "No, but it is willing to listen!" He was such a great friend and brother. I can't express how much I will miss him.

My deepest sympathy to the family during the loss of your loved one. I grew up with Skeet and he was a very fun person. As yound adults, we only see the road as rocky before we see the pavement; and then we begin to look into the future. The most important thing was Skeet looked into the future and accepted the Lord as his personal savior, and he's now at home with the Lord. I hope you ponder all of the good memories and times you shared together in your hearts and allow Skeet to live on forever in your memories. God rest your soul my friend!

Skeet was involved in a ministry, Helping Hearts. He reached out to shut in's, brought them meals, visited with them and always shared the love of God. Skeet would pick up those without any loved ones and give them clothes, food, toiletries, and bring them to church. He would always make and take time for those that others would think were not important.
He would bring food to those in need, and would do anything for a friend, or even a stranger. That was the type of man he was.
He reached out to so many, even in his own pain he would praise the Lord and shout," Glory! Glory! Glory!"
Skeet is no longer hurting and is sitting in the palm of God. He is no longer that big old Teddy Bear that loved us on earth, but God's little lamb.
We will miss you and we know that you know you were loved by the most awesome lover in and out of this world, Jesus Christ.

Skeet was always a jolly fellow in school. Since I was so small he would let me pick on him, jump on him, etc. But if anyone was ever picking on me he would tell them to "leave his buddy alone" He was my bodyguard. A BIG guy with a BIG heart back in our school days. And a man that cared for others. A blessing to many.

Jennifer and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your dad was one of a kind, with a heart as big as Texas. I hadn't seen Skeet for a while, but when I saw him in the hospital, he was his usual witty self. I will never forget his kindness to Les and me. He always thought about others first, like those Thanksgiving dinners at church for those who didn't have family to eat with and opening his home to our singles group. He will be missed. I pray God's peace, strength and grace be with you.
Skeet, hey man, sorry for your pain. I'll remember those rides in your convertible and I know you are riding now - pain free- with the wind blowing in your hair, at least that is how I will you remember you my friend. Blessings.
