Jackson Staples Obituary

Jackson Fletcher Staples

Jackson Fletcher Staples, 78, of Monroe, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, with his family by his side.

Jackson was born in Coolwell, June 10, 1931, to the late Elwood B. Staples and Dorothy L. Staples.

For the past four years he resided with his son, William M. Staples and daughter-in-law, Melissa W. Staples, who lovingly cared for him during his illness.

He is also survived by a son, Gregory K. Staples of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James Staples and his wife, Evelyn, of Amherst; three sisters, Ann Parker and her husband, Roy, of Gretna, Shirley Price and her husband, Eddie, of Earlysville, and Doris Coleman of Madison Heights; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack retired from Old Dominion Box Factory where he was a pressman. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Jackson was preceded in death by his wife, Alice R. Staples; a daughter, Jacqueline S. White; and a brother, Charles Staples.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Society, P.O. Box 823, Lynchburg, VA 24505.

A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #74.

The family wishes to thank all of the caring people of Hospice of the Hills.

Iam Jack Staples daughter-in-law and and I have such an empty space since he left us. He will always be more then a father -in-law to me because he was like my second Dad. I am so honored that I was able to take care of him up until he decided he had to go and especially to be there to hold his sweet precious hand until the end.......I LOVE YOU POPS AND WE MISS U TERRIBLY MELISSA STAPLES

I took care of Jack years ago when he first started 2 get sick. What a wonderful person.So loving & kind.I only have wonderful memeories that I will cherish forever.I'm glad that I was able 2 get 2 know such a great man.He made friends everywhere we went & noone was a stranger 2 him.Loved his stories he shared w/ me.Greatly missed & loved.
