Dear Steve and Sallie,
I'm so sorry about Jim's passing. I received a lovely Christmas card and note from him the Christmas of 2009. He was a wonderful man and I know John loved him dearly. Father and son are together again as well as Anne, I know they are happy and rejoicing. I think of all of you often and wish that John's and my life could have been laid out differently but it wasn't meant to be. My first born has her middle name of "Summers" and she proudly tells the story of how she came by that name. I have so much to tell and you would be proud of regarding your brother, John. My family has been very involved with Paul Newman's "The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp" in Ashford CT since 1986, basically since inception. Our involvement has been in John's name, its a camp that is free of charge for kids with life threatening diseases. The Ashford camp is the first one and now there are 14 camps running and "in the works" all over the world. I feel proud that John's name has lived on from our involvement with that wonderful organization.
I would love to tell you more about camp and how proud that both of my children are with their involvement with camp and the connection to John.
I wish you and your family well and all the best for 2011.
Janet

Summers Family - As the daughter of a now deceased Naval Captain; I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, for the sacrifices your father made for his country. His service and dedication to his country will never be forgotten. Because of so many men like your father, I am free today.

May God strengthen you during this time of sorrow. I feel sure there is a huge celebration in Heaven with all the men he served with in the United States Navy. God Bless Lt. Commander, James E. Summers, Jr. USN., Ret. and the wonderful family that he leaves behind.

In Deepest Regards,
Heather McClaren, Charlottesville, VA.
