Joyce Long Obituary
Joyce Miller Watkins Long, 80, of Stanardsville, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at her residence.
She was born in Albemarle County on March 22, 1930, the daughter of the late Clyde Miller Watkins and Eva Thacker Watkins. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jean W. Critzer and her husband, Vernon Critzer; and two brothers, Robert G. Watkins and Clyde Melville Watkins.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Linwood "Red" Long; two children, Linda Long Twyman of Stanardsville, Virginia, and Harold Randolph Long and his wife, Linda, of Warsaw, Virginia; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Joyce Long Abercrombie and her husband, Joel, and Shannon Nicole Long Childs and her husband, Robert; one step-grandson, Willie Thomas of Warsaw, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Lacey Nicole Childs; two sisters, Arlene W. Prestipino and her husband, Joe, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and Kathleen W. Prietz of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Brenda A. Watkins of Gordonsville, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
he was a charter member of Broadus Memorial Baptist Church and loved her church and church family. She retired from Centel after 39 years of service. She was an active member of the American Legion for many years. She held many offices there. She was also a member of the Elks Doe Club for many years.
She loved being with her family, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed the time they spent at Sandy Point and boating and fishing. She also enjoyed the vacations at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Kevin McConnell, to his staff, and to the staff of Legacy Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Broadus Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, 1525 Stony Point Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or to Legacy Hospice, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite #180, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Long at Charlottesville North Dialysis. She knew that she was loved by her family. I do believe that she is in a good place today and I know that God will be with you at this sad time.

Bless Aunt Joyce's heart and God love her!!! I'm sure my Dad, Aunt Jean, and Uncle Melville (just to name a few) were in heaven waiting for her with open arms. She was a wonderful person and we were all blessed to have her as part of our family.
