Leora Speers Obituary

Leora Fencl Speers

Leora Fencl Speers born on May 26, 1918, in Haddam, Kansas, died peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2010, at the age of 92 at The Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville, Virginia.

For health reasons, she moved to Charlottesville from Sun City West, Arizona, in March 2010 to be near her surviving son, Jim, and his family.

Leora lived nearly 30 years in Sun City West, the last 20 years of which she lived by herself. With James Speers, her lifelong friend and beloved husband of 48 years, Leora retired to Sun City West in 1980, James passed away in 1990.

In addition to her son, Leora is survived by two daughters as well as four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many friends all over the United States.

For their loving care and kindness, the family would like to thank The Hospice of the Piedmont, the staffs at The Laurels and at The Colonnades, Dr. Theresa Coppola and Dr. Tim Short. Also, special thanks to Doris Creasy for her love and companionship during the last four months of Leora's life.

Leora arrived here less than excited to be in Virginia, but she left this life for her eternal one with a big smile on her face.

The family requests those who would like to remember her to make a gift in memory of Leora Fencl Speers to The Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville.

A remembrance gathering will be held at a time and place to be announced at a later date. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
