Williams Sr.

Lewis Edwards Williams, 89, of Trucksville, Pennsylvania, died suddenly on Monday morning, November 1, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace Retirement Home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Lew was born on June 23, 1921, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, to Edward James and Clara Fine Williams, the eldest son of five children. His sisters, Ethelyn Evans, Emma Everett and twin brothers, Harry and Lemuel, predeceased him.

He married Arline M. Parsons on December 30, 1939, and together, he and Arline shared more than 70 years of marriage.

His daughter, Arline Anthony of Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and his parents, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his son, Lewis E. Williams Jr. and his wife, Melanie, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and six grandchildren. His grandchildren are Michael Evans and his wife, Gail, of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, Lewis E. Williams III of Newcastle, Delaware, Susan Kile and her husband, Russ, of Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, Paula Testa of Newcastle, Delaware, Lori Umphred of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, and Chris Evans of Exeter, Pennsylvania. In addition, 15 great-grandchildren, survive Lew.

Lew moved to Our Lady of Peace in December 2008. While reticent to make the move at first, Lew soon came to love his new home and the people who assisted him there. He often commented, "that he was living like a King". Prior to his move to Our Lady of Peace, Lew resided with his son and daughter-in-law, who loved and cared for him during the last five years.

Lew spent his entire working career in the automobile business. He worked for several automobile dealerships in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, finally retiring from Duke Isaacs Chrysler Dodge in Trucksville, Pennsylvania, in 1990. During his career Lew was regularly recognized for his superior sales ability and his personal sales management style.

Lew was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Pennsylvania, and his family is comforted knowing that he now rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The family will share remembrances privately and request in lieu of flowers that you make a memorial gift to the Deacons Mercy Fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia.
