Margaret Stephenson Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on Oct. 19, 2010.
Margaret Hughes Stephenson

Margaret Hughes Stephenson passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband, James, at her side on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, after a long illness.

Margaret was born in Mount Vernon, Georgia, on August 26, 1919, and was buried there on Saturday, October 9, 2010.

She leaves behind her husband of 67 years, James E. Stephenson. Although they had lived overseas for many years, they returned to live in Lake Barcroft of Falls Church, Virginia. They then moved in 2002, to Rochelle, Virginia, becoming neighbors to their daughter and son-in-law, Lisa S. and James S. Gentry.

Margaret is survived by her three children and their spouses, Lynne and Ted Lee of Virginia Beach, James E. II and Teddy Stephenson currently living in Liberia, and Lisa and James Gentry of Rochelle. Margaret also leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret, or Maggie to her friends, was truly an admired Renaissance woman. She was a gourmet cook, a writer, an avid reader and true adventurer. She touched the lives of many while living in India and Turkey as well as here at home. Maggie Stephenson will be truly and exceptionally missed not only by her extensive family, but by all who were fortunate to know this remarkable and amazing woman.

Memorial donations, if desired, can be made to Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701. Our family is eternally grateful for the care and comfort they provided during this difficult time.

Preddy Funeral Home of Madison was in charge of arrangements.
