Mary Woodson Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Dec. 24 to Dec. 25, 2010.
Mary Ida Woodson

Mom was born on September 8, 1926, to Ralph and Annie (Tomlin) Brown and in 1944, married our Dad, John H. Woodson. She passed quietly at her home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, surrounded by loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, William Brown, Ralph "Pete" Brown, and George Brown; one sister, Ethel Tillman; her stepson, John "Sonny" Woodson; a granddaughter, Sandra; and two sons-in-law, Steve Bishop and Charles Barnett.

A lifetime resident of the Charlottesville area, Mom was a homemaker and longtime caregiver at the Cedars Nursing Home. She loved her family first and foremost and took great pleasure in bird watching and collecting wind chimes. And a trip to the beach was about the only place you could convince her was worth leaving home for.

She is survived by three sons, Ronnie Woodson, Bobbie Woodson and Donald Woodson, all of Charlottesville; four daughters, Mary Ecklund of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Robin Barnett of Charlottesville, Delilah Bishop of Haymarket, Virginia, and Bunnie Woodson of Charlottesville; two daughters-in-law, Janice Woodson and Arlene Woodson; son-in-law, Charles Dolan; 16 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in Ruckersville with interment directly following at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.

Donations may be made in her honor to Hospice of the Piedmont.

Mom when I came home and you hugged me and said "my first born is home." The next day when I was about to leave we hugged each other and you said we had a long road together. The ache in my heart will never stop, and my love for you will never end.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I remember your mother as a quiet, yet very strong and dedicated woman. Even though I was a child back on Parker Pl, I could see her deep love for her children.
