Mary Julia Sullivan McCloskey "Muff"

Mary Julia Sullivan McCloskey "Muff", fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.

Mrs. McCloskey was the beloved daughter of the late Eugenia Scullin Sullivan Bagnell and Alexander Hays Sullivan; dear sister of the late Anne Sullivan Gray; twin sister of the late John Scullin Sullivan; and sister of the late Alexander Hays Sullivan Jr.; and wife of the late John J. McCloskey Jr.

She was the beloved aunt of W. Ashley Gray III and his wife, Charla, John Sullivan Gray, Julia Sullivan Faltin and her husband, Craig, Joan Sullivan Marum and her husband, Pete, Jennifer Sullivan Carney and her husband, Jerry, and the late John Scullin Sullivan Jr. with wife, Kimberly, surviving; dear great-aunt of W. Ashley Gray IV, Michael Kruse Gray, Peter Sullivan Gray, Courtney Jane Sullivan and John S. Sullivan III. Mrs. McCloskey had many friends and relatives, both in St. Louis, Missouri, and Charlottesville, Virginia, including especially Linda O. (Gray) Philipp, Carol Simon, Cornelia "Connie" Green and Elizabeth J. Douglass.

Mrs. McCloskey was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 1, 1918. She attended Mary Institute and Miss Porter's School. During World War II she served overseas in the American Red Cross. She was an extensive traveler, having visited over one hundred countries around the world. Mrs. McCloskey was the owner of the Trouseau Shop in Charlottesville and a dog owner and animal lover. She was an avid gardener and a proficient golfer. She recently resided at McKnight Place Extended Care in St. Louis.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 106 North Meramec at Maryland in Clayton, Missouri, 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Interment will be private.
