Melva Bowles Wright

Melva Bowles Wright, 91, of Palmyra, Virginia, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Envoy at the Village in Fork Union, Virginia.

She was born on April 2, 1918, in Fuvanna County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas Clifton Bowles and the late Mildred Loving Bowles. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy H. Wright Sr.; and two sisters, Jeanette Dunivan and Catherine Stanton.

She is survived by her son, Guy "G.H." Wright Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Palmyra, Virginia; her grandson, Troy Wright and his wife, Dawn, of Palmyra; and her granddaughter, Tracy Wright and her fiance, Brent Mathis, of Palmyra. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Shontell, Destiny, Rebekah and Mya.

In 1951, along with her husband, they relocated to Charles County, Maryland, to operate a family owned business. After retiring as a general merchandise store owner in 1979, she spent her time with her grandchildren and traveling with friends and family. Along with her son and family, she moved back to Fluvanna County in 1991 to live out the rest of her life. During this time she was active in many civic organizations, including the Fluvanna Historical Society, Bybee Garden Club, Fluvanna Women's Club, Charles County Chamber of Commerce and others.

The family expresses grateful appreciation to the staff of Envoy at the Village for their professional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to The American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Virginia, 1 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, with fellowship time following the service at the Wright's residence, 2211 Ridge Road, Palmyra, Virginia. Interment will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.

Sheridan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
