Michael George Maddalena Michael George Maddalena, 50, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Margaret Dryer and the late Leopold Maddalena; and stepson of Mark Dryer. Michael was born in New York City on November 24, 1962. In 1981, he graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers, New York. In 1983, he obtained an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in graphic arts from Elizabeth Seton College. In 2000, he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, to live closer to his mother and sister, Diana Knight. Michael enjoyed art, especially painting, fishing, basketball, and the serenity of the Charlottesville-area. He is survived by his mother; stepfather, Mark Dryer; siblings, Diana Knight, Franchesca Maddalena-Napp and Nicholas Maddalena; and niece, Morgan Rohrhofer. Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In addition to the Mass at noon, relatives and friends are invited to attend a remembrance in the church hall afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Michael's name to the , and because Michael was an artist, the family encourages family and friends to paint a picture together. There will be room in the church hall to display everyone's artwork along with Michael's. Blank canvases and paint will be available to those who prefer to paint at the remembrance.
