Roy Edward Smith

Roy Edward Smith, 73, of Gordonsville, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at his residence.

He was born August 1, 1936, in Curry, Virginia, son of the late Edward Smith and Glay Brooks Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired Coal Miner and he was a member of the Charlottesville Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Birdie Blankenship Smith of Gordonsville; two daughters, Josiephine Currier of Gordonsville, and Sharon Coleman of Big Rock, Virginia; two sons, Van E. Smith Sr. of Buckingham, and Gregory T. Smith of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, Van E. Smith Jr., Vanessa L. Williams, Debra D. Smith, Heather V. Smith, Lindsey N. Smith, Victor A. Breeden, Mallory M. Snow, Erica Smith, Kelcie Smith, Kriston Gentry, Kaytlynne Gentry, and Katherine Gentry; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Junior B. Smith, Jimmy Smith and Billy Rogers Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday November 27, 2009, at Cross View Church in Paynesville, West Virginia, with interment to follow in Blankenship and Mullins Cemetery in Paynesville.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville and also at 5 p.m. Thursday, November 26, 2009, at Cross View Church in Paynesville, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

Preddy Funeral Home of Gordonsville is handling local arrangements; Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy, Virginia, is handling arrangements in Paynesville.
