Sadie Wootton Carroll

Sadie Wootton Carroll, 87, of Buckingham, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at her home.

She was born in Amherst County on June 13, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward Hill Wootton and Mary Catherine Branch Wootton.

She was the widow of Reese Edward Carroll Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Delmas A. Carroll; two brothers, George and Herman Wootton; two sisters, Agnes W. Carroll and Macie Wootton Taylor.

She is survived by a son, Reese E. Carroll Jr. and a special devoted daughter-in-law, Mary; two grandsons, Michael Carroll and Mark Carroll of Charlottesville; a sister, Gertrue W. Carroll and her husband, Percy, of Buckingham.

Sadie was active for many years in the Mount Vinco Extension Homemakers Club as well as many community activities. She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church for 64 years where she served as treasurer for 27 years as well as many other offices.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn with interment at Buckingham Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Lucille Moniuszko, 309 Fitzpatrick Road, Buckingham, VA 23921.
