Sarah Gibson Obituary
Sarah "Sally" Evaline Carter Gibson, 68, of Charlottesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
She was born on January 3, 1942, in Charlottesville, to the late Charles William Carter and Evelyn Galloway Carter.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, best friend, high school and college sweetheart, Douglas Gibson; one daughter, Sara Bishop of Charlottesville; two sons, Charles Gibson and his wife, Tammy, of Fluvanna, Douglas Gibson III and Judith Moore of Free Union; a brother-in-law, William Gibson; two sisters-in-law, Gail Gibson and Jackie Turner. Sally was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Brittany Gibson, Steven Bishop, Savannah Gibson and Caitlin Bishop. She is also survived by a beloved son-in-law, Steve Bishop; many friends and beloved neighbors.
She was a graduate of Albemarle High School, a 20+ year volunteer of The Green Olive Tree in Crozet, a member of the Blue Ridge Sam's Club, and a member of University Baptist Church. Sally loved to live life to the fullest. She enjoyed camping, quilting, antiquing and crafting. She loved games, jigsaw puzzles, boating and jet skiing with her family at Smith Mountain Lake and was an avid gardener.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Bruce Campbell and his staff.
Donations can be made in Sally's memory to H.O.P.E., 459 Locust Avenue, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Cardwell Center, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at Riverview Cemetery. The Reverend David Collyer of Crozet Baptist Church will officiate.

William Thomas Nichols

Her older sister, Evelyn Lee Carter, at the age of 92, passed away in her sleep, on February 17, 2018. She was living in western Pennsylvania and lived a great life. I am her oldest son, William Thomas Nichols II. Her youngest daughter, Michelle Nichols Swogger, was taking care of her in conjunction with a nursing home in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Her one and only ex husband, William Thomas Nichols, died a few years earlier, in a Shenango Special care facility in New Castle, Pennsylvania

Dear Gibson Family,
I first met Sally on my first job at Keller and George. She remained a sweet acquaintance for all these years and I enjoyed hearing her at the Olive Tree talking lovingly about her husband, children, and grandchildren.
I am so sorry for your loss. She will always be remembered warmly by me. She always smiled!

Doug, our hearts are heavy hearing of the loss of Sally. She was a friend to so many and especially her Blue Ridge Camping Buddies. We will miss her sorely. We love you, our thoughts and prayers will remain with you.
