Thelma E. Smith

Thelma Easterling Smith, 79, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at a local hospital.

Born December 17, 1930, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Hobert Easterling and Allie Castle Easterling.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jake Easterling, Earl Easterling, and Pete Easterling.

Thelma was a member of the Charlottesville Church of the Brethren where she was actively involved in many functions. She was very family oriented and greatly cherished family gatherings.

Surviving her are her husband of 57 years, Clarence Smith of Charlottesville; a daughter, Diane Kahn and her husband, Tom, of Bristow; two sons, Larry Smith of Charlottesville and Clyde Smith and his wife, Lisa, of Troy; and five grandchildren, Matthew Kahn, Andrew Kahn, Cory Smith, Casey Smith, and Sabrina Smith.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at the Holly Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Thomas Williams officiating.

The family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 9221 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA 23235.

Smitty, Larry, Clyde and Diane, I loved Thelma so much, even though we saw each other less and less through the years. May God comfort you in your loss. Mama (Evelyn) would be there if she could. Love to you all.
