Verdie Tusing Tappy

Verdie Tusing Tappy, 104, of Orange, died on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Dogwood Village of Orange.

She was born on July 2, 1906, in Rochelle, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Luther Tusing and Sarah Frances Lohr Tusing. She was also predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Tappy; five brothers, Walter, Fred, Miller, Oscar and Moten Tusing; six sisters, Clara T. Herndon, Cora T. Herndon, Bertha T. Eddins, Forest T. Lohr, Beulah T. Estes and Nannie Tusing.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces ad nephews.

She was a member of the Mount Nebo Lutheran Church, the church choir, and Sunday school. Womens organizations beginning with the Womens Missionary Society, the Homemakers Club, the Eastern Star, The VFW Auxiliary, and a volunteer worker at Dogwood Village of Orange. She and her husband lived in the town of Orange until 1956 when they built a home in the Brizzalaro subdivision and moved.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Mount Nebo Lutheran Church in Rochelle, with interment to be held at the church cemetery. The Reverend Robert Ward and Pastor Patricia Nabers will officiate.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Dogwood Village of Orange staff, volunteers and her private sitters for their special care, and also to Dr. Eve Bargmann, and the staff of Hospice of the Rapidan.

Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tappy--you were an inspiration to the individuals living within Dogwood Village and to anyone that visited the facility. I always enjoyed talking with you about the "ole" times in Rochelle and UNO. You will be greatly missed.
