Virgie Phillips Obituary
Virgie Mae Phillips, 83, died on Friday, December 3, 2010, surrounded by family at her home in Shipman, Virginia.
She was born May 12, 1927, in Nelson County, and attended school at Variety Mills. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carrie Belle Williams; her father, Clarence Jordan; her first husband, Roy Lee McCauley, and her second husband, James Oliver Phillips; two daughters, Dorothy Ann Showalter and Mary Jane Price; and two sons-in-law, Dennis Brown and Jesse Showalter.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley McCauley, Patricia Brown (David Ragland), and Cindy Phillips Coleman (Billy Ferguson); and one son, Robert McCauley and his wife, Phyllis; a special friend, James Goolsby; and a special granddaughter, Jessie Monaghan (Jason); 15 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren and one on the way; and seven great- great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Virgie was a member of Shipman Baptist Church where she faithfully worshiped her God and loved her church family. During the times that she was unable to attend her church due to her illness she would sit on her front porch and enjoy the hymns and the coming and going of her church family. She was employed at the McClanahans at the Covesville Packing Shed. After retirement she attended the Shipman Senior Citizen Center for years until her health failed.
The family would like to thank the multitude of people and organizations who cared for and loved her unconditionally. Her caregiver, Mary Turner, Dr. Brown and associates at Blue Ridge Medical Center, Allen's Ambulance Service, and the doctors, staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center and Shipman Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Wells/ Sheffield Funeral Chapel, in Lovingston, from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2010.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2010, at the funeral chapel with the Reverend Carroll Martin officiating. Internment will follow at Davis Cemetery, Shipman, Virginia.
Donations may be made to Shipman Baptist Church, 746 Craigtown Road, Shipman, VA 22971.
