Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your father, son, husband, sibling and friend. Blaine was my second boss at Merck. He was a great teacher, confidant, mentor, softball coach, friend. I still remember to "get out my graph paper" whenever I talk "enzymology". He will always live on in my mind and heart for he was so much a part of my learning experience as a young scientist. I also remember the sense of humor and compassion that he had. I remember that he would not wash his car after a trip back home to Virginia because his niece had written on his car door to "Uncle Blaine". I also remember his way of clearing the leaves from his yard in the fall was to wait until the frost and then spray the yard with water and then remove all the leaves in one piece the next morning. May God bless Blaine's family.

I was saddened to hear about Blaine. I was a grad student with Blaine. He was a great guy and was always willing to talk biochemistry. When I would work late in the lab, he too would be burning the midnight oil. At the same time he was a funny and witty friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I am saddened to hear of Blaine's passing. I knew Blaine as a housemate and fellow graduate student and although we lost touch after graduate school I have never forgotten him. Blaine was legendary for his incredible passion for everything he took on, both in his work and in his life outside of work. His life story is remarkable and I know that my life was enriched by having known him.

Blaine was a great friend of my brother in the early days, Jr High School and High School. Blaine was the kind of person who could make things happen. We used to all run around together . We were called the Boys. Years have passed and many of us have parished and many of use are still hear. I look fondly on those days and I know others will too. Blaine will be missed and remembered by me.

I have been a friend and colleague of Blaine since the 1980s. In addition, he used to come to deer camp regularly in northern Wisconsin with us.
I am stunned to learn of his passing. I think that I talked to him just 6 months ago and he seemed optimistic and fine.
I shall always remember his very active biochemical mind and the things that he taught.
As the survivors, you have my greatest empathy.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Blaine’s passing. I offer my humble condolences to all who he touched. We were friends as much younger men, in a seemingly different time. I remember his bright mind, warm soul and how his eyes sparkled at the prospect of fun. Happy trails, buddy.

Dear Tracey and family,
I was so sadden to hear of your loss. Blaine was the best department head at GSK and has been missed since his departure from GSK! My heart and prayers go out to you and the girls. May God provide comfort and strength for you to get through this difficult time. Love to you all.

It was so sad to hear that Blaine is gone. Although I have not seen him for years, there was a time when he was a constant presence as a good friend of my son Forbes and a sweetheart of my daugter Holland. I have always been grateful to Blaine for his support in encouraging Holland to finish her education at Mary Washington College and driving her there himself. I respected Blaine's focus on getting the highest education possible. He did, and I wanted to be sure there was some mention of that. Safe trip, old friend. Love always from Forbes, Holland, and their Mom, Debbie
