Wilbur Gloor Obituary

Wilbur Tell Gloor, 92, of Charlottesville, died on Monday, November 8, 2010, at a local care facility.

He was born on July 27, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Walter Tell Gloor and Hedwig Louise Walther Gloor.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Ervin Gloor and Mark Gloor.

Mr. Gloor graduated from Glenville High School and received his BSME and MSME degrees from Case School of Applied Science. He was a specialist in weighing systems and materials testing equipment with five patents issued. He formed Gloor Inc. in 1972, to provide Product Development Service. In 1979, a patent for a three-thread fabric loom was issued.

He was a lecturer in Machine Design, Author, Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and member of ASME, ASTM and Sigma Xi. He served on church and civic committees in his home locations in Chagrin Falls and Aurora, Ohio, Stamford and Norwalk, Connecticut, Sudbury, Massachusetts, and Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church.

Surviving him are his wife, Dorothy Sandridge Gloor of Charlottesville; a daughter, Catherine Duane Gloor Simmons and her husband, Victor, of El Cajon, California; three grandsons, Mark Wayne Simmons and his wife, Catherine, Travis Shaw Simmons, and Jeremy Victor Tell Simmons and his wife, Ashley; and five great-grandchildren, Gail Simmons, Jesse Simmons, Austin Simmons, Connor Simmons and Katelyn Simmons.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010, at the Olivet Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Albert Connette officiating. Interment will precede the service at the Mount Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Whitehall.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Case Alumni Association, Case Western Reserve University, 10605 Chester Avenue, Suite 309, Cleveland, OH 44106.
