Eloise M. Elio

Eloise M. Elio passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Compassionate Care Hospice/Dover General. She was 95 years of age. She was born in Dover to the late George L. Nixon and Elsie Hathaway on October 21, 1917. As a younger woman she taught all styles of Dancing, her favorite pastime. Eloise graduated Dover H.S. in 1935 and worked briefly at Picatinny Arsenal as a receptionist before working at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital also as a receptionist, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church of Wharton, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Lafayette #410 and the Mine Hill Goodyears Club Seniors. Eloise was a life member and past president of the Mine Hill Memorial Unit 391 of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also past president of Morris County American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Elio was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in both Units 63 and 20. She belonged to N.A.R.F.E., William J. Ryan Chapter.
Mrs. Elio married her late husband of 64 years, the late Alfred A., Sr. in 1942, who predeceased her in 2006. Survived by ten children: Barbara Daniels of NJ, Alfred A., Jr. of NJ, Raymond J. and his wife Eleise of FL, Gregory D. and his wife Julie of FL, Mary L. Booth-Istance of CA, Mark V. of CO, Christopher J. of NJ, Regina C. Elio of NJ, Elise C. Dunham and her husband Stephen of VA, Thomas H. and his wife Alice of NC. Also survived by 25 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a brother: Norman Nixon of FL.
Visitation will be held on Thursday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. Funeral services will be held on Friday 9:30 a.m. from the Funeral Home to a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Wharton. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 5851, Topeka, KS 66675 will be appreciated.
