Manford Elwood "Pick" Pickrell Jr.
On Thursday December 5th 2013 Manford Elwood "Pick" Pickrell Jr. quietly passed away at his daughter's home in Clinton Twp., NJ. He was born on August 8th 1931 in Syracuse, NY to the late Manford Elwood Sr. and Bernice Calvert Pickrell.
While attending East Aurora High School Class of 1949 he was a three letter man and their star basketball player. One of his classmates stating in Pick's yearbook "Good Luck to a fellow you can never miss in a crowd". Graduating from Purdue University
with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953 "Pick" had entered the ROTC program. He served in the United States Air Force
during the Korean War
He married Sarah Elizabeth Taliaferro in 1954 and had two children, Dianne Lynn and Stuart Scott. Pick left the Air Force in 1955 and joined his father in a career in the design and distribution of motion picture equipment in Buffalo, NY. Moving to New Jersey in 1964 he elevated his career to become president of Xetron Corporation in Cedar Knolls before retiring in 1988.
He was a true car enthusiast and loved working on and driving exotic cars. So much so that he was a past president of the North American Maserati Club while living in NJ. In 1989 he moved to Del Ray Beach, Florida enjoying a life of boating and spending time with family and friends. In 2005 he moved to Knoxville, TN with longtime companion Shirley Ketcham before returning to New Jersey in 2011.
Pick is survived by his daughter Dianne Storey and her husband Michael. He has two grandchildren ; Kirk Christopher and Nicolette Elizabeth and one step-grandson Damian Michael Storey of High Bridge,NJ. He is also survived by his sister Jackie Haveman of Fort Worth, Texas and his longtime companion, Shirley Ketcham of Lake Canandaigua, NY. He is predeceased by his son Stuart Scott Pickrell.
