Fritz Weckenmann, 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 12, 2013. He was born in Dormettingen, Germany and immigrated to the US in 1953, and he later proudly served in the US Army from 1955-1957.
Mr. Weckenmann married Elisabeth in 1962 and together they raised their two daughters in Oak Ridge, NJ. He was a faithful parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church in Oak Ridge, NJ, and a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 423 in Oak Ridge. Mr. Weckenmann was a mason by trade, and also employed as a union steel worker at Athenia Steel in Clifton, NJ and most recently retired from Primex Plastics in Garfield, NJ.
Mr. Weckenmann's favorite pastimes were cooking at the American Legion Hall with his peers, helping friends and family at a moment's notice and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and had a great appreciation for nature and loved all wildlife in his surroundings, both big and small.
Mr. Weckenmann was predeceased by his beloved wife Elisabeth in 2012. He is survived by his loving daughters Linda Gulati and her husband Arvin of Washington Twp, NJ, and Elaine Hengler and her husband Arthur of Boonton, NJ; his cherished grandchildren Max and Lucas Hengler and Alex and Sophia Gulati.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 LaRue Road, Newfoundland, (GPS use 1 Post Place). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Following the church mass, Mr. Weckenmann will be interred with his wife in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
