Joseph C. Nycz, 95, of Wayne, formerly of Towaco died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Merry Heart of Boonton Township. Visiting will be at The Keri Memorial Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park on Friday, 2-5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated on Saturday at 10AM at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Born in Jersey City to the late John and Josephine Rajchel Nycz, Mr. Nycz moved to Towaco in 1922 and then Wayne in 1982. He received a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1939 from Newark College of Engineering and his Master's Degree from Steven's Institute of Technology in 1946. He began his career at The Westinghouse Electrical Corporation, Newark in the Instrument Engineering Division in 1939. During his career he contributed to several patents at Westinghouse. He was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 68 in Towaco. He was a member of the Morris-Sussex Council, an Explorer Advisor, District Advancement Chairman, Chairman of The District's Camping and Activities Committee. He served as a leader for two tours to The Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was awarded Scouting's Highest Honor, The Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth in 1964. He was a Ham Radio Operator for over 50 years. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, The Engineering Society, as well as a member of The Amateur Astronomers Association of New York and The N.J. Lapidary Society. One of his fondest accomplishments, was having traveled to 46 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Japan, Central and South America.
He is the beloved husband of the late Eleanor Ruggiero Nycz. Brother of Dolores Nycz and the late Victor, Chester, Walter and Henry. Brother-in-law of Edna Nycz. Uncle of Teri Broadhurst, Cathy Legendziewicz, Christine Cornish, Gail Sontos and Carl and Bill Nycz.
