Mary C. Maher, 88, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Tipperary Town, County Tipperary, Ireland and came to this country in 1960 settling in the Morristown area. Mai as she liked to be called was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Christ the King church in New Vernon. Mai dedicated her life to caring for her husband and raising her children and grandchildren and always had the kettle boiling for tea for family and friends. Mai was active in the Irish community in Morristown for many years helping to coordinate Irish dances in both St. Margaret's and Assumption Parish's
Mai had a deep and abiding faith in God and a love for her Irish heritage, There was many a weekend Mai would be on the dance floor dancing an Irish reel. Mai loved to sing Irish songs and would entertain her family and friends with stories of the old country. Mai loved vacationing with her family and many a summer was spend at Niagara Falls, the Thousand Islands, Rehoboth Beach, and the Jersey Shore. Mai helped her husband Sean run his Pub and open air dance garden in Goatenbridge, Ireland before coming to America.
Mai is survived by her husband Sean, and brother Billy McCarthy and his wife Maureen, England, her children, John and his wife Marian, Michigan, Michael, and his wife Joan, Basking Ridge, Eithne Howard, and Bridget Martorelli, Morristown, Eileen Huth and her husband Roger, Morris Plains. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: John, Marian, Brianne, Dominick, Michael-Sean, Kevin, Sean, Erin, Molly; great grandchildren Trisha, Taylor, Kyrah and countless friends and family in the United States, Ireland and England. She is pre-deceased by her sisters Eily, Nora, Maggie, and brother Paddy of Ireland and England.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Christ the King church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012. Hours of visitation at Doyle Funeral Home at 106 Maple Ave. (www.doylefh.com) will be on Monday, from 4-8. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary (Mai's) memory to the Morris Minute Men (www.morrisminutemen.org).
