William "Pop" L. Schicke

AGE: 80 • Parsippany

William "Pop" L. Schicke, Age 80, passed away after a 19 month battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, October 30th 2013 in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clares Hospital in Dover. William was born and raised in Jersey City before moving to Lake Parsippany in 1948. He graduated from Boonton High School, Class of 1951. William served in the United States Navy on the USS Strickland DER 333 during the Korean War from February 6th 1952 until being honorably discharged on December 9th 1953. He was a machinist for Marotta Scientific Controls in Montville for 42 years before retiring in 1995. William was an active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church.

He was a loving and devoted family man. His greatest passion in life was his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending every moment with them as well as attending all of their sports events and activities.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Violet H. (nee-Olsen); his two sons: William & his wife, Eileen and James & his wife, Nancy, all of Boonton Township; his two daughters: Lynn Grauerholz & her husband, Craig of Sparta and Cindy Vernicek and her husband, Robert of Kinnelon; ; his brother, Robert and his wife, Carolle of Denville; his sister, Lois Hinds of Manalapan; his brother-in-law, Arthur Olsen and his wife, Patti of Parsippany; and his greatest joys in life, his grandchildren: C.J. Grauerholz, Brent Grauerholz and his wife, Rachel, Robert Vernicek and his wife, Mary, James Vernicek and his Fiancee, Jessica Kayhart, and William, Regina, Jessica, James and Jacob Schicke; and his treasured great-granddaughters: Lucy & Lola Grauerholz and Violet Vernicek.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 10:00a.m. on Friday, November 1st 2013 at King of Kings Lutheran Church. 145 Rt. 46 West, Mountain Lakes.
