Beresford Russell, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 24, 2014. He was 86 years old, born in Morristown, NJ and was a life long resident of Madison, NJ. He graduated from Madison High School in 1945 and shortly after served in the U.S. Navy. "Bere" as he was lovingly called was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the Usher Board for many years. He began his career by graduating from Irvington Vocational school. He became an electrician's helper and later employed by Picatinny Arsenal. He would go on to start Russell Electric as an independent electrician. Bere was actively involved with the Madison Recreation Track Program where he enjoyed teaching and mentoring young athletes. He always had a kind word of encouragement to every one he met until his last days. He had a real love for working in his vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family.
Beresford is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Smith Russell, Madison, NJ. Daughter Karen Russell Brisbon (Terrence), Piscataway, NJ and predeceased by son Alan Russell, Morris Plains, NJ. He is also survived by a host of loving family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Monday, April 28th at 10:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church, Madison, NJ. Visitation will be Sunday, April 27th from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Madison Memorial Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, NJ.
