Alfred Carl Claus, 91, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday June 13, in Arista Care at Manchester. He was a lifelong Carpenter who worked his way to become The Construction Superintendent for Fred J. Brotherton Construction Co., in Hackensack working here for over 30 years. He was a Member of Local 15, Hackensack. Later he worked at Fitzpatrick & Associates in Tinton Falls for 7 years, before retiring in 1987. Al was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WW II. He was congregant of the Lakehurst Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Legion Post 502, Whiting. He enjoyed his koi pond, gardening & boating. Al loved Atlantic City, he was a 'jack of all trades', who enjoyed cabinet work and during his life built 3 houses. Al above all, loved being with his family. Born in New Milford, N.J., he resided in Hopatcong for many years, moving to Whiting in 1989.
He is predeceased by his daughter, the Late Linda Claus in 2009. Al is survived by his loving wife Gladys of 65 years and their sons, Alfred Claus Jr., & his wife Sharyn of Hopatcong, and Carl Claus, & his wife Christy of Sandy Hook, VA. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Fred, Chrispen, & Carol, and Al's sister Eleanor Rieken of Toms River.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 18 from 10am until Funeral Services beginning at 12pm from the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ 08759. Committal to include Military Honors will follow at the Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753.
