Henry George Muchmore, 92, of New Vernon, NJ died peacefully at home on June 25, 2009. Born in Summit, NJ, the son of Henry Luse Muchmore and Mabel R. Muchmore. A direct descendent of Stephen W. Muchmore, who settled in Morristown in the early 1800's and a great nephew of Fred W. Muchmore, the last surviving Civil War veteran in Morristown. A graduate of The Lawrenceville School and a member of the Class of 1942 of Lafayette College. He was a naval aviator during World War II and settled in New Vernon after the war. After serving as a Vice President of The White Motor Corporation, he became President and partner of the North Jersey Truck Center in Saddle Brook, NJ.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia; sons, James H. of Morristown, NJ; and John W. of Pottersville, NJ; daughters, Joan M. Roach of Greenwich, CT; Jean M. McCleary of Wakefield, RI and Juliana M. Cooney of Kintnersville, PA; grandchildren, James H. Muchmore, Jr; Lile E. Muchmore; Hayden R. Cilley; Cameron C. Roach, John H. Roach III; Lauriston V. Roach; Schuyler T. M. Roach; Samantha M. Stuart; James J. Muchmore; Ashley L. Muchmore; Emily S. Muchmore; Benjamin P. McCleary; and Katherine M. Walton and four great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will held at Burroughs, Kohr, & Dangler, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, NJ at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harding Land Trust, P.O. Box 576, New Vernon, NJ 07976.
