Walter J. Colborne Jr., of Alpharetta, GA, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home in Atlanta, after a long battle with brain cancer. He was 54. Mr. Colborne was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and lived all over the country. He graduated in 1975 from Morris Knolls High School, Rockaway, N.J., and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. He served in the U.S. Army from 1986-1990 and worked for the Department of the Army at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. as a civilian employee before moving back to Georgia in 2002.
He is survived by his widow and soulmate, Barbara, whom he adored, along with six stepsons: Timothy and Bridgett Budrow, Steven Budrow, Jarred Wideman, BJ Wideman, Chad and Christina Wideman, and Devin Wideman, as well as seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Walter J. Colborne Sr., and stepmother Marie, of Staten Island, N.Y., and three sisters: Virginia Drancsak of Auburn, N.Y., Cathleen Kmetz of Keyport, N.J., and Christine Colborne of Roswell. Ga. His mother, Virginia Colborne, predeceased him in 1985. He is also survived by dozens of nieces and nephews and cousins scattered around the U.S.
Mr. Colborne was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Southcare Funeral Home, 2260 Old Milton Parkway, Alpharetta, Ga. A reception with refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mr. Colborne's name to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, 760 Pollard Blvd., SW, Atlanta, Ga. 30315.
