Emilio Joseph Gervasio of Morristown, NJ entered into eternal rest on December 2, 2012. He was 102 years of age. Born in Morristown on August 3, 1910, Mr. Gervasio was a lifelong resident of the town he so loved. After attending local grammar and high school, he became a student at the University of Notre Dame where he was a member of the famed Notre Dame Glee Club. Emil was in Morristown law enforcement for over 25 years as a patrolman and Lieutenant and head of the detective bureau. After his retirement from the Morristown Police Department, he worked as an investigator for the Morris County Prosecutor's office. In addition to his role in law enforcement, Mr. Gervasio was mayor of Morristown in 1973, and 1982-85. Mr. Gervasio was a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, Knights of Columbus (4th degree), Saint Margaret's Holy Name Society, Member of the Loyola House of Retreats, Patrolman's Benevolent Association, and a former president of the Morristown Columbian Club where he was also one of its founding fathers. He was a member of the Morristown Charter Committee which reorganized the form of government in Morristown. An active church member, the love of family was foremost in his heart. Emilio Gervasio's true passions were love of God, love of family, love of country.
He is predeceased by his loving parents Antonio and Mary, as well as 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sons, Anthony G. Gervasio and his wife Barbara and James J. Gervasio and his wife Ann. Emil will also be missed by his grandchildren, James Emilio Gervasio and Jenna Marie Gervasio; Dante and his wife Jeanine; Gregory and his wife Deanna, and Justin and his wife Amy; also, 7 great-grandchildren: Mason, Jacob, Kelcey, Anthony John, Lucas, Giuliana, and Vincent. Emil was also a caring brother-in-law and uncle to his nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:30am at Church of the Assumption, Morristown, NJ. Hours of Visitation will be on Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 3-8pm at Doyle Funeral Home, 106 Maple Ave., Morristown, NJ (www.doylefh.com). The interment will be at Holy Rood Cemetery in Morris Twp. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be given to: Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C.
