Roger Gustav Bentley

AGE: 71 • Boonton

Roger Gustav Bentley, 71, of Boonton, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. He was a 1959 graduate of Boonton High School, where he played football and basketball. Roger served for 4 years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid in the Mediterranean Sea. A proud and dedicated businessman, Roger, was working up to his death at J.F. Mines Inc. Blasting Contractors in Hewitt, NJ, for a total of 50 years. Roger eventually became President and purchased the business from his brother-in-law, Joseph F. and sister, Geraldine Mines. Roger worked daily, side by side with his devoted son, Bill, who highly respected and learned all aspects of the blasting, rock drilling, and excavating, and plowing business from his Dad for over 25 years. Roger's grandson, Shane Bauer, now carries on Roger's 50 year business legacy as a Blasting Inspector.

Roger is pre-deceased by his wife of 20 years, Marcia (Kohut); father, Gerald (owner of Jerry's Tavern); mother, Sophie "Sally" (Hornick); and younger brother, Gerald Bentley, Jr. (Jockey). Roger is survived by his son, William "Bill" Bentley of Unionville/Westtown, NY; daughter, Arlene Sklow of Parsippany, NJ; two grandsons, Shane Bauer and Ryan Bentley; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Julia Sklow; his sister, Geraldine Mines of West Milford, NJ/North Carolina; and 3 nieces.
