Laura Lea Fletcher

Memorial services for Laura Lea Fletcher, 43, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Kobler officiating. Ms. Fletcher was born July 13, 1970, at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Mich. to parents, Gailon K. Fletcher and Constance Riehle Fletcher. With her family and Pastor Kobler surrounding her, Laura passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas from complication of a hemorrhagic stroke. At 6 years of age, Laura and family moved to Nacogdoches in 1976 upon her father's retirement from the U.S. Air Force. She attended Nacogdoches schools from first grade through high school graduation in 1988. She was a marching band member for six years, playing clarinet and contra bass clarinet in the symphonic band. Laura proudly served her county in the U.S. Navy from 1989 to 1994. She attended basic training at the Naval Training Center at Orlando, Fla. and received the rating of dental technician after training at San Diego Naval Training Center, Calif. She was assigned duty at the U.S. Marine Corps Training Center, Paris Island, S.C. and at the Marine Corps Air Station at Beaufort, S.C. After her active duty tour, she was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to Nacogdoches. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and began her career as a dental assistant. She was a long-time employee of Russell Brewster, DDS at his Nacogdoches clinic. She also worked for other dentists and clinics in Tyler, Texas, Boca Raton, Florida and Dallas, Texas. Laura also attended Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas and became a registered phlebotomist. She then decided to train to be a radiology technician and was an honor student in the School of Radiology at Angelina College at the time of her death. She was excited to have been invited to join Phi Beta Kappa Honor Fraternity, and was looking forward to graduation with honors next year. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nacogdoches, Texas and enjoyed working in the nursery for the English as a Second Language classes. As a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Nacogdoches Post #3893, she had served as a trustee and junior vice president and worked as door keeper at the VFW Saturday night dances. Animals had a special place in her heart, especially her little Dachshund, "Philly." She loved babies, barbecue cook-offs, Barry Manilow music and spending time with friends. Most of all she loved her many cousins and all her family. Laura was preceded in death by a brother, Gailon K. and sister, Janice Marie Fletcher, twins who died in 1964. Also preceding her were paternal grandparents, Otis Lofton and Opal Lillian Fletcher and maternal grandparents, Dwight L. and Veronce Loretta Riehle. She is survived by her parents, Gailon and Connie Fletcher of Nacogdoches; sister, Cheryl Ann Fox and husband, Michael, of Richardson, Texas; nephews, Christopher Fox of Richardson and Stephen Fox and wife, Lindsay; great-nephew, Jackson Fletcher Fox of Hurst, Texas; uncle, Leland Fletcher and wife, Terry, of Chandler, Texas; uncle, Lonnie Fletcher and wife, Carol, of Tyler, Texas; aunt, Robbie Kibbe of Beaumont, Texas; uncle, Brian Riehle and wife, Angie, of Palm Coast, Fla.; aunt, Becky Thompson and husband, Ronnie, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and 13 cousins and numerous other relatives in Texas, Florida, California, Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Laird Funeral Home.
