Billy and Joyce Simms

Services for Billy and Joyce Simms will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010, at Shawnee Church of Jesus Christ on U.S. Highway 69 South, Lufkin, with Bro. Cary Modisette officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery. Billy Simms, 73, of Lufkin, was born March 3, 193,7 in Allentown, Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Augusta Garrett and Jewel Harrison Simms. Joyce Simms, 68, of Lufkin, was born July 11, 1941, in Acol, Polk County, Texas, the daughter of Agnise Mosley Easley, and the late William Louin Easley. Mr. and Mrs. Simms passed away together Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Simms was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He retired from Champion (Abitibi) Paper Company. He was a member of the Beekeepers Club and the Coffee Club for the retired paper mill employees. Mrs. Simms was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed children being in her home. Together, they enjoyed traveling and fishing. They volunteered with the Forestry Museum and the Special Olympics. They enjoyed the singings at Sacul and at Shawnee Church. They had many friends and would help anyone that needed them. Mr. Simms' favorite activity was farming and gardening. He served his country in the United States Army. Survivors include their daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and Anthony McCarty of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, William Keith and Lorie Simms of Nacogdoches; and grandsons, Joshua McCarty, Jesse Lee Simms and Cody Starling. Mr. Simms is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy Bob and Doris Simms of Hudson; sister, Yvonne Simms Howell of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Simms and Spencer Selman of Moffett; and brother, Jerry Simms of Central. Mrs. Simms is also survived by her mother, Agnise Easley of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thedford and Leatha Easley of Alto and Gene and Molly Easley of Central; and sister, Mildred Neal of Central. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Caleb McCarty; brother-in-law, Fred Howell; and baby sister, Geraldine Simms. She was preceded in death by her father; brother-in-law, Lee Roy Neal; and grandson, Caleb McCarty. Pallbearers for Mr. Simms will be Dwayne Burgess, Dwayne Howell, Larry Howell, James Simms, Clayton Selman and Delbert Reynolds. Pallbearers for Mrs. Simms will be Ronnie Wood, Louin Easley, Brad Neal, Jesse Simms, Rodger Martin and Jamie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua McCarty, Cody Starling, Derek Wood, Ryan Wood, Sean Wood, Adam Caffey, Lenny Johnson, Willie Thompson, Wes Newman, Cody Neal, Matt Neal, Justin Simms, Kevin Easley Don Harris, Ray Brown and the Shawnee Pickers.
