Funeral service for Mr. G.L. "Pee Wee" McDaniel, 69, of Kingtown, Texas, will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Woden Baptist Church with Bro. Sonny Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow at Simpson Campground. Mr. McDaniel was born on February 11, 1944, in San Augustine, Texas, to Lawrence McDaniel and Margaret Smith McDaniel. He passed away on April 26, 2013, in Nacogdoches. Pee Wee grew up in Broaddus, Texas, and attended Broaddus High School. He had worked throughout his life as a welder and an over the road truck driver. He was the fire chief for Kingtown Volunteer Fire Department from 1985 to 2004, and played a significant part in getting the department started, and from 2004 to the present he was a member of Woden Volunteer Fire Department. Pee Wee loved to fish, hunt and garden. He loved people, never met a stranger and was a practical joker. He was very outgoing and very social as well. He loved his family tremendously and was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Heflin McDaniel of Kingtown; his father, Lawrence McDaniel of San Augustine; two daughters, Barbie Askew of Buna and Jamie Fountain of Nacogdoches; two brothers, Lawrence A. McDaniel of Athens and Robert Earl McDaniel of San Augustine; sisters, Mary Broomfield of Center, Betty Lawson of Lufkin and Margaret Bates of Lufkin; son-in-law, Nelan Burt of Woden; four grandchildren, Le'Anne Martindale, Amey Burt, Blake Fountain and Cheyanne Askew; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kai'leigh; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and good friends. In addition to his mother, Margaret Smith McDaniel, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Paul and John McDaniel; two nephews, Wesley and Roger and a niece, Tracey. Pallbearers will be Pee Wee's nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Woden Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woden Volunteer Fire Department.
