Helen Snitker, 75, of Reklaw was born on Sunday, Jan. 8, 1939, in Leesville, La. to the late Arthur Harville and Oma Baggs Harville. She attended and graduated from Leesville High School. After graduation, at the age of 17, Helen honorably served her nation as a nurse in the United States Army. She was enlisted in Houston, on March 19, 1956, and was discharged in Fort Bragg, N.C., on Sept. 25, 1959. Helen worked at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital as a nurse for 23 years. After her employment at the hospital, Helen wanted to work closer to her patients, so she decided to go to work for home health care and several other home health agencies in the Nacogdoches and in Henderson counties. She enjoyed working close to her patients. She got to know them and their families well by spending time talking and listening to them. Helen made sure her patients had the love and care they needed. Helen was a loving and wonderful friend to her patients. Helen was a loving person, but she was well loved by her family. Helen's life revolved around her loving grandchildren. She raised all three of her grandsons, Sammy, Joseph and Daniel, and her granddaughter, Tiffany, from the time they were infants. Once her great-grandchildren started arriving she found her new love in life. Helen was not only a grandmother to these children she was a mother to them all, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. She would spend so much time with her great-grandchildren just to spoil them rotten. She enjoyed being with them all. She also had a love for old time movies. She would spend her quite time watching her favorite channel, ME TV, with her favorite movie being "Pillow Talk." She also liked being outside with her plants and working in her garden. Helen is survived by her grandsons, Sammy Alvy and wife, Charity, Joseph Alvy and Daniel Rowe; granddaughter, Tiffany Flaherty and husband, Dan; brothers, Larry Harville and wife, Joan, Jimmy Harville and wife, Ann, and Buddy Harville and wife, Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Emily Alvy, D.J. Rowe and Sophie Alvy; along with multiple nieces, nephews and extended friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Harville and Oma Baggs Harville; husband, Eugene J. Snitker; daughter, Janice Hollingsworth; and son, Johnny Alvy. Laird Funeral Home.
