Funeral services for Jerry Sparks, 80, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches, with Bro. Garrel Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories, located at 5205 S. First St. (Hwy. 59 South) in Lufkin. Mr. Sparks died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at a Nacogdoches hospital. Jerry was born March 6, 1934, in Appleby, to John Thomas and Allie Bertie Polk Sparks. He attended Cedar Bluff and Garrison High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He attended college at Cleveland Engineering in Cleveland, Ohio, and the University of Tennessee. Jerry married Shirley Havard Sparks on May 24, 1958, and they were married for 55 years. He retired as president and CEO of Spring Engineers Inc. after 32 years. After retiring, Jerry and Shirley resided in Nacogdoches until his death. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Harold Sparks of Nacogdoches, Shirrell Sparks and wife, Barbara, of Eustace, Dale Sparks and wife, Ann, of Palestine, Don Sparks of Waller, and John R. "Chick" Sparks and wife, Dorothy, of Nacogdoches; his sister, Carrie Havard of Carmel, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene "Gene" Sparks; sister-in-law, Sadie Sparks; and brother-in-law, Gene Havard.
