Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Laird Funeral Home. Joyce was born on March 6, 1926, to the late Dr. Ditzler Brookshire and Wincie Hooker Brookshire in Timpson, Texas. She grew up in Timpson until the age of 7. The family later moved to Nacogdoches, where she attended Nacogdoches Demonstration School. She was involved in the choir while in school. Joyce attended and graduated from SMU. While still in school, on a Greyhound bus, on a trip to visit her parents, Joyce met Mr. Roy "Bud" Marcus Taylor, a United States Marine. He asked to sit beside her. During this trip, they got to know each other. He asked her for her phone number, and she wrote it down with her lipstick. They were happily married on Oct. 11, 1946, in Nacogdoches. She was known for her love of crocheting, bird watching, reading and walking. Most of all, she was known to love her family. She prided herself in being the best mother and wife she could be. One of the things she enjoyed doing was cooking for everyone she loved and was a great cook. Joyce was a member of the Heritage Club in Nacogdoches and a member of the Women's Circle 7 of First United Methodist Church. Joyce loved her Lord and Savior and was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches. Her special accomplishment in her life was raising her five wonderful children. Joyce is survived by her sons, John Taylor and wife, Peggy, Tim Taylor and wife, Carla, and Paul Taylor and wife, Melinda; daughter, Betsy Alexander and husband, Terry; daughter-in-law, Theresa Taylor; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Ditzler Brookshire and Wincie Hooker Brookshire; husband, Roy "Bud" Marcus Taylor; son, Mark Taylor; sister, Betty Brookshire Sheffield; and grandson, John Brookshire Taylor, Jr. Pallbearers will be Clint Taylor, Blake Taylor, Todd Alexander, Paul Alexander, Chock Taylor and David Taylor.
