Prayer services for Mr. Thomas S. Packard Sr., 85, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Monsignor James E. Young officiating. Mr. Packard passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Nacogdoches. Thomas was born on Jan. 10, 1929, to the late Dudley Maxfield Packard and Jennie Bernice Clark in Alta Loma, Texas. He grew up in Nacogdoches, Texas, and attended Nacogdoches High School. Thomas was married for 58 years to his loving wife, Amy Elizabeth Lyon. They married on Nov. 23, 1955. He enjoyed the outdoors like working out in his garden, fishing and hunting and also going out camping with his dogs, which he cared for and loved. He also spent his days listening to Big Joe's Polka music. Thomas was a people person, he never met a stranger. He loved giving to others. He would tell stories of his younger years to his family and friends. He made time for himself by drinking his Community coffee and his hibiscus Tea. Thomas had a special saying every time he, a family, or friend would go through something stressful. He would always say "It's a great life if you don't weaken." Mr. Packard was a loyal member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Nacogdoches. He was also a member of the American Legion in Nacogdoches. Thomas is survived by his sons, Thomas Packard Jr. and Glenn Packard; daughters, Kathy Miller, Bridget Packard, Melanie Packard and Stephanie Packard; brothers, Gerald Packard and George Packard and wife, Dot; sisters, Mary Margaret Holt and husband, Ellis, and Jennie Packard; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Amy Elizabeth Packard; his parents, Dudley Maxfield Packard and Jennie Bernice Clark Packard. Daniel Miller, Adam Packard, Kelly Packard, Robert Packard Jr., Nick Packard, Dalton Packard and Halden Packard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George Packard and Gerald Packard. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Laird Funeral Home. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Laird Funeral Home.
