Daniel Danielak Obituary
Danielak, Daniel, a longtime resident of Warren Mich., died Monday, June 16, 2014, two days after his 97th birthday. Born in Detroit on June 14, 1917, the youngest of 11 children, Mr. Danielak learned early that the ability to tell a joke or story was a great way to stand out in a crowd. This sense of humor would benefit him greatly later on when he entered the business world. Whether it was enjoying a game of golf or bowling, traveling around the country, taking a spin around the dance floor or just spending time with his family, Daniel Danielak was always in motion. There wasn’t anyone who met him who didn’t marvel at his energy and enthusiasm for life. He served in the Navy from 1942-1946, where he was stationed in Hawaii soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. During this time, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Guzdziol in 1942. They were married for 67 years until her death in 2009. After being discharged from the Navy, he returned to Detroit and became a manager of food service at the Warren Tank Arsenal from 1946-1950. He took that experience and started his own business, D&D Lunch and Catering, which he ran from 1950-1971. His energy and humor made him a well-known figure in the area and chances are, if you ate lunch on the east side of Detroit during those years, you knew Danny Danielak. He completed his work career as an employee of Warren Woods schools from 1971-1982. Mr. Danielak is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Steven) Giannotta and grandchildren, Brent Giannotta, Nicole Giannotta and Robyn (Andrew) Moss. Rosary is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 18 at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr in Sterling Heights, Mich. The funeral will be Thursday, June 19 at 10 a.m., instate 9:30 a.m. at St. Thecla Church, 20740 S. Nunneley, Clinton Township. Mr. Danielak’s request is that contributions be made to Meals on Wheels Senior Nutrition Program, 21885 Dunham Road, Suite 10, Clinton Township, MI 48036.
