Shirley Ann Dean Hamming Obituary
HAMMING, SHIRLEY ANN DEAN, aged 86, of Harrison Township, Michigan passed away May 19, 2014 after a short illness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and dance partner Kenneth; her parents, George and Annetta Sharon Dean; and her sister Betty Dean Helme. Shirley grew up on the east side of Detroit and met Kenneth when they both worked at Michigan Bell Telephone Company. After her marriage she left Michigan Bell to raise their family. When he retired they traveled together all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She was an avid bridge player all her life. Shirley was the quintessential “Mom”. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and welcomed all their friends as well. She was universally loved by everyone who met her and will be dearly missed by her home helpers, Brenda, Lin, Carrie and Aubri. Shirley leaves to grieve her memory, a beloved sister Deanna Jackson (Gary); seven children, Barbara (Karl Grunewald), Kendra (John Anderson), Suzanne (David Subject), Nancy (Bruce Justin), Kevin (Lori), Patricia (Tim Rusek) and Michelle Hamming; twelve grandchildren, Christopher (Leslie), Becca, Ryan, Kristin, Kathryn, Laura, Joe, Mark, Carrie, Tom, Abby and Sarah; and one great-grandson Oliver. All seven of Shirley’s children graduated from Michigan State University, making her the ultimate Spartan fan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 24415 Crocker Boulevard, Clinton Township, Michigan on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. (family will receive friends starting at 4:30 p.m.). Burial will be private on Drummond Island where she and Ken built their second home and where he is already resting. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Louis Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Arrangements by Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main, Mount Clemens, MI.
