Shirley Harbut Obituary

Shirley B. Harbut, age 83, a resident of Royal Oak for the past 12 years, formerly of Chatham Street in Detroit, died July 2, 2012 at Providence Hospital in Southfield. She was born October 9, 1928 in Detroit to the late Herbert and Catherine Mills. Mrs. Harbut retired in 1985 from Massey Ferguson, after 30 years, where she worked as a traffic controller shipping agricultural equipment worldwide. She was a member and supporter of the UAW, a life member of Hadassah and a Boy Scout den mother. Most important, she loved her family. She is survived by her children, Dr. Michael R. (Laura) Harbut, Shirley L. (Dr. Kenneth) Bayles, LPN and Susan Kim (Jeffery) Burek, RN; grandchildren, Michael J. Harbut, Andrew S. (Eleanor) Harbut, Rachel F. Harbut, Elijah F. Harbut, Benjamin D. Bayles, Susan K. (David) Brice and Christopher R. (Kelly) Burek; great grandchildren, Claire M. Brice and Jordan L. Bayles; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Humble, Fred Mills, Herbert Mills, David Mills, Alex Mills and Elsie Kuczek. There will be visitation today 5-8 p.m. and service Thursday, 10 a.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road (4 blocks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. my Aunt Shirley was everything..kind, funny,generous,loving...her smile ,her laughter could brighten your day. and oh how her eyes always had a twinkle! I gotta believe that there is one big party in heaven going on tonight.
