Marvin Gene "M.G." Long
MILTON - Memorial services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton for Marvin Gene "M.G." Long, age 68, who passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 4:05 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Milton. The Rev. Aaron Melancon, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Mark Collazos and S. Duhon. Giftbearers will be his grandchildren.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, By Name-I have Called You, Precious Lord, One Bread One Body and Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Mr. Long was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Scott for over twenty years. He retired as a Drilling Superintendent with Noble Drilling and in the oilfield industry for over forty years. Mr. Long was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton. He was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
Survivors include one son, Billy Long-McElhanon and his wife, Shahira, of Camarillo, CA; three daughters, Deva Long Collazos and her husband, Mark, of Glenmora, Secret Long Burkheiser and her husband, Christopher, of Lafayette and Brandy Long Duhon and her husband, of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Anthony Mikel Collazos, Spencer Gene Collazos, Ryker Duhon, Ashley Duhon, Megan Duhon, Emily Duhon, Lilah McElhanon, Riley Burheiser, Norah McElhanon and Simon McElhanon; and two sisters, Sherlien L. Doucet and her husband, Pat, of Carencro and Carolyn Long of Des Allemands.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Twitty Long; his parents, John William Long and the former Alma Bennette Copp; and one brother, William "Bill" Long.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Joseph Catholic Church (208 E. Edith Rd., Milton, LA 70558) from 10:00 a.m. Monday until service time on Monday.
