Helena M. Bernard
PALMETTO - Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas for Helena M. Bernard, age 91, the former Helena Marks, who passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her residence in Palmetto.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. Austin Leger, will officiate at the services.
Mrs. Helena was a native of Port Barre and a resident of Palmetto, LA. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church of Palmetto.
Survivors include one son, James Leo Bernard and his wife, Barbara of Opelousas, one daughter, Marie Leger and her husband, Levi, of Palmetto; five sisters, Lillian Dupre of Krotz Springs, Elsie Guidry and her husband, Howard, of Port Barre, Eva Jane Lalonde and her husband, Paul "Dewey", Mildred Chustz, all of Lakeland, LA, Rita Arnaud and her husband, Mac, of Berwick, LA; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Francis Bernard; her parents, Edgar Marks and the former, Clemence Robin; three sons, Joseph D. Bernard, Antoine Bernard, and John Bernard; two brothers, Joseph W. Marks, and Edgar Marks, Jr., also proceeded in death by one grandchild.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
