OPELOUSAS - A Mass of Christian Burial for Tillman James Melancon will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery in Opelousas, LA with Reverend Paul Bienvenu.

Mr. Melancon, age 81, a resident of Opelousas, LA died on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the St. Landry Extended Care Hospital in Opelousas, LA.

Tillman was a retired industrial carpenter. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his sons, Jimmy Melancon and wife, Mary, of Opelousas, LA; Michael Melancon of New Orleans, LA; his brother, Burgess Melancon of Opelousas, LA; his sister, Norma Jean Melancon Roten of Shriever, LA and his loving friend, Naze Fontenot of Opelousas, LA. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Moore Melancon; his parents, Clifford and Adel Soileau Melancon; his daughter, Susan Melancon McClelland; his brother, Joseph Clifford Melancon and his sisters, Ruby Martin, Grace Fontenot, Gerry Ortego and Emily Fontenot.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
