OPELOUSAS - Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home of Opelousas for Mr. Lee Albert Sam a/k/a Plug, 68, who passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at his residence in Opelousas.
Rev. Frank L. Ford will be officiating the funeral services.
Mr. Sam was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps
. He was the Sweet Opelousas basketball coach and a softball coach.
Mr. Sam is survived by: his wife, Nateala E.P. Sam of Opelousas; one son, Lee A. Sam, Jr. of Opelousas; one step son, Daniel Preston of Opelousas; three daughters, Adrienne Thurmond of Atlanta, GA, Kasey Ellison of Shreveport and Porche Shelly Sam of Baton Rouge; three step daughters, Necole Preston, Michele Preston and Danielle Reed, all of Cleveland, Ohio; nine brothers, Junior James Sam, Antoine Joseph Sam, Jr., Malcolm Sam, Donald (Rose) Sam, Ronald Sam and Carl (Cheryl) Sam, all of Opelousas, Marion (Donna Mae) Sam of Port Barre, Merrick (Betty) Sam, Sr. of Houston, TX and Leroy (Burgene) Sam, Sr. of Missouri, TX; four sisters, Mary Parrish (Murphy), Barbara Hunt and Florine Jones (Enoch), all of Houston, TX and Veronica Chretien of Opelousas; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two God children, Jessie Isaac and Kristen Sam; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Elnora and Antoine Sam, Sr. and three sisters, Marjorie Sam, Donna Mae Sam and Gloria Parrish.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home.
