Eli Norman, Sr.

OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Opelousas for Mr. Eli Norman, Sr., 64, who passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Senior Village Nursing Home of Opelousas. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas.

Rev. Joel Green, Sr. will be officiating the funeral services.

Mr. Norman was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Deacon, Vice President of Male Chorus, Laymen Dept. and a choir member. He was a member of the singing gospel group "In Jesus Name". He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and National Guard with a ranking of SGT. E-5. He received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with One Star, Combat Action Ribbon and RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm & Frame.

Mr. Norman is survived by: his wife, Patricia Jones Norman of Opelousas; his stepmother, Mildred Jones; one son, Eli Norman, Jr. (Dana) of Opelousas; one daughter, Sabrina (Ronald) Andrus of Opelousas; two brothers, John Lazard (Rebecca) of Rock Hill, SC and Albert Jones (Mary Lou) of Lake Charles; three sisters, Florence Hansley (Gaston) of Chester, SC, Peggy Lazard of Milwaukee, WI and Lou Ella Malbreau of Opelousas; a special aunt, Carrie Norman of Opelousas; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sterling Jones and Mary Lou Norman Lazard; one daughter, Melissa Lair-Warner; one brother, Laron Lazard; and four sisters, Rowena Aggison, Dianna Penry, Opra Jones and Rose Jones.

Visitation will be observed on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
